Pay soared along with deficits

While Columbia officials were running multimillion-dollar budget deficits and spending $24.7 million in the city’s emergency reserves during the past five years, some of the city’s highest paid employees saw pay increases of a combined $5 million.

CHARLESTON – As police swooped in to arrest Faith Haven’s former director on a fraud charge Friday, residents of the troubled sober-living facility learned they had until Saturday to vacate the stately mansion that the program called home.
